Welcome to Thingwall Primary School

It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to introduce you to Thingwall Primary School. Thingwall was opened in 1964 and is a popular, happy school, very much at the heart of the community. We pride ourselves on our positive, caring ethos.

Thingwall is a popular and successful school where every child is given the opportunity to fulfil their potential in a safe, secure, stimulating environment through high quality education in its broadest sense.

We are very proud that in May 2011 the school was described by Ofsted as being "a good school in which pupils achieve well". They also said that the overwhelming majority of our parents feel that their children are exceptionally well cared for.  Pupils report that their curriculum is "interesting and rich". In a recent assembly, one child stated that "Our school is quite magical. The minute you step inside you know you're in for another good day!"

In 2010 we achieved our third Arts Council of England's Artsmark award in recognition of the school's commitment to, and excellence in, art, music, dance and drama.  We also achieved Activesmark status in summer 2008 which acknowledges exceptional delivery of the National School Sport Strategy and Eco School Bronze status in autumn 2008 which recognises our achievement in working towards a sustainable lifestyle.    In Autumn 2011 we were pleased to receive the Full International Award from the British Council in recognition of all our hard work based on the International Dimension, especially our Viking links with Tingvoll School in Norway and Tynwald in the Isle of Man.  We are currently working towards achieving our Green Flag Eco-Status.

Thingwall has a School Council and Health Promoting School Team where pupil representatives take an active role in helping to ensure the health and well-being of pupils and come up with ideas to help ensure our school meets the needs of all pupils. We have full national Health Promoting status and the local authority have given us enhanced status in our promotion of Safety, Sex and Relationships Education and Healthy Eating throughout the school.

We feel that successful education is enhanced through a strong partnership between home and school. Parents are always welcome in school although it is best to make an appointment if possible.

We are all very proud of our school and would welcome the opportunity to show you round so you can see for yourselves why Thingwall is the great school it is.
